uhhhhhhhhhh

For the record, I actually think this is a really dumb argument.
The Colorado shooter was armed and armored. No amount of concealed weaponry would have saved anyone in that case.
Theaters don’t even allow concealed weaponry.
All the same. Gun control.
Discuss, tumblrnauts.
Gun control is a great thing.
As in, put every gun in existence into a shipping crate and control how rapidly it can be flung into the sun.
Except that’s never going to work.
People who really want guns will still acquire them. The people who want guns the most (the people who want them enough to illegally import them, or get them on the black market) are the sorts of weirdos you don’t want to possess them in the first place.
At least with the current system, every gun has a traceable, unique serial number — something that would disappear if they all went “underground.”
… also inb4 constitutional right.
The culture in America for owning guns is atrocious. And it being a constitutional right just further adds to the ridiculousness of the situation. The rest of the world with strict gun regulations, like the UK and Australia, wouldnt agree that owning a gun is a good thing nor should be a right of every man. We don’t have the culture here at least. To own a gun in Australia, especially in populated areas is highly regulated, you need an arms licence for the specific weapon class, you have to have proper safety training for weapon handling, you have to show reason as to why you require the weapon, and the police will inspect your house every year to make sure you keep your weapon in a safe. So pretty much the only people with guns are police, farmers, sportsmen and people who slip under the radar such as criminals. I would feel terrified if I knew that just anyone could own a gun with very little regulation as it is in the US. And its just proven with shit like this that not everyone should have weapons and it should not be a “right” of everyone, because not everyone can be trusted to do the right thing. When will America learn.
Actually, there’s pretty strict regulation here too.
You can’t just walk into a drug store and walk out with a gun all willy-nilly like some folks would have you believe.
Getting a conceal and carry license in particular is extremely time consuming and difficult.
It also doesn’t help that a lot of the laws vary state to state, county to county, and city to city. There are probably lots of examples of people out in the rural US who can acquire guns (and most likely use them with a lot of safety and vigilance), without a lot of restriction, but if someone like me wanted to get one (living in a city, surrounded by people), it would be a very different story.
I didn’t mean it to sound like its just easy peasy, but comparatively it is easier. And the comments I read from many Americans is the most concerning thing though. The thought of carrying a weapon for protection, just makes you as bad as the criminal in my eyes if you shoot them and kill them trying to protect yourself. If you’re all so worried about others just pulling a gun out on you, what gives any of you the clarity to decide that you carrying a weapon is justifiable or that you wouldn’t do the same thing. Wouldnt you feel safer that less people are carrying weapons if it was much more regulated, thus decreasing the opportunity to run into some trigger happy nut? I walk the streets at night knowing that it is incredibly unlikely that I will come face to face with a gunman. It’s possible but much less unlikely when its so goddamn difficult to get a weapon here cos there are so few. If you want self protection, learn self defense. If they have a gun, its probably dumb of you to pull a weapon out on them in the first bloody case cos they are already a step ahead and you are just going to antagonize them. It’s why you leave it up to the professionals to use weapons. It’s not some toy to play with, this is someone’s life. I don’t think most normal sane people would deal well with someone’s blood on their hands, even if it was a criminal.
TL;DR I hate American gun culture
Oh and the stats are proven. Homicide rates in countries with heavy gun control are much less. Your call, USA.
The stats are proven are they?
Let’s look at the UK, where everyone lauds how controlled gun ownership is:
However, crimeoverallhas gone down. Soo….
I don’t get why whenever something tragic like this happens people have to argue the fact that guns are bad and that people shouldn’t be allowed to carry them or have them but to be honest I feel allot safer at home with a gun under my pillow while I sleep. It’s a right that was given to us and just because incidents like this happen doesn’t mean that we abuse it. There will always be people out there who will abuse their right to a gun if it is given to them. You can’t stop that, but we can protect ourselves from those idiots and morons that do. I know people who feel safer when someone they know has a concealed gun and we shouldn’t try to take that away from them. You will rarely ever get incidents like this one and when we do all people do is blow gun control laws out of proportion.
